Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
1. Introduction
RollingStory is a collaborative storytelling platform where users can create, share, and contribute to stories together. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our platform. By using RollingStory, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: email address, username, and date of birth (to verify the minimum age requirement of 14)
- Story content: stories, pages, and contributions you create or submit on the platform
- Collaboration activity: records of which stories you have contributed to and your pending submissions
- Session data: HttpOnly session cookies used to keep you logged in
- IP address: collected for AI feature quota management and throttling (AI Proofread, AI Translate)
We do not currently collect payment, banking, tax, or government-issued identification information. If we introduce paid features or a payout system in the future, those categories will only be collected from users who opt in, and only after we update this Privacy Policy with at least 30 days' prior notice (see Section 11).
3. How We Use Your Information
- Account creation and management
- Enabling platform features: collaborative writing, AI Proofread, and AI Translate
- Enforcing daily AI usage quotas and preventing abuse
- Platform security and fraud prevention
- Legal compliance and enforcement of our Terms of Service
- If and when monetization launches in the future: calculating and distributing earnings, issuing settlement statements, and complying with tax-reporting obligations (only for users who opt in)
4. Age Requirement & Minor Users
RollingStory requires users to be at least 14 years old. We collect your date of birth during registration solely to verify this requirement. We do not use your date of birth for any other purpose, and we do not share it with third parties.
For users under the age of majority in their jurisdiction, we do not perform behavioral profiling or serve targeted advertising, and any future earnings will be held or paid out only as permitted by applicable child-protection and guardianship laws (see Terms of Service Section 11).
5. Content You Create
You retain copyright ownership of the story content you create on RollingStory. By publishing content on the platform, you grant RollingStory a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and host that content on the platform.
For collaborative stories where multiple authors contribute, each author retains ownership of their own contributions, and by contributing, they grant the story's collaborative community the right to display their contributions alongside other pages.
6. Data Sharing & Service Providers
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share limited information only with the following categories of service providers, who are contractually bound to use your data solely to provide services to us:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: to operate the website, store content, and deliver pages to your browser
- Email delivery providers: to send transactional messages such as account verification and notifications
- External AI providers: when you use AI Proofread or AI Translate, the relevant text from your draft is transmitted to a third-party AI provider for processing. We instruct these providers, by contract, not to use your content to train their models. Inputs and outputs may be retained by the provider for a limited period only for abuse-monitoring purposes, in line with their published policies.
- Future payment and identity-verification providers: if and when monetization launches, we may share necessary information with payment processors and tax/identity-verification providers, but only for users who opt in. None of these providers are engaged today.
We may also disclose information when required by valid legal process (court order, lawful subpoena, or governmental request) or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of RollingStory, our users, or the public.
7. Cookies & Sessions
We use HttpOnly session cookies for authentication. These cookies are strictly necessary to keep you logged into the platform and cannot be accessed by client-side scripts. We do not use any third-party tracking or advertising cookies.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your personal information will be removed. However, content you contributed to collaborative stories may remain on the platform in order to preserve the narrative context for other authors, unless you specifically request its removal. Records related to payouts, taxes, or legal compliance (if any are ever generated under a future monetization system) will be retained for the period required by applicable law.
9. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
- Receive a portable copy of the personal information you provided to us, in a structured, commonly used format
- Restrict or object to certain types of processing
- Withdraw any consent you previously gave, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal
- If monetization is ever activated for your contributions, access the settlement statements and underlying calculations relevant to your earnings
To exercise these rights, please email [email protected] or contact us through the platform. We will respond within the period required by your local law (typically 30 days).
10. International Users (EEA / UK / California)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, RollingStory acts as the controller of your personal data. The legal bases on which we rely are: performance of our contract with you (to provide the platform), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and product improvement), your consent (for optional features), and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the rights granted by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, the right to delete, the right to correct, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. RollingStory does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use legally recognized safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect that data.
11. Future Monetization Data
RollingStory does not currently operate a payment system, payout system, business bank account, or revenue-distribution mechanism. The categories of data described above (payment, banking, tax, government-issued identification) are listed for transparency only and are not collected today. Before any such system is launched, we will (a) update this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service, (b) provide users with at least 30 days' prior notice through the platform, and (c) require separate, opt-in consent and a Payee Agreement from each user who chooses to participate.
12. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at [email protected]. For copyright and DMCA matters, please write to [email protected]. For all other inquiries, you may also use [email protected] or contact us through the RollingStory platform.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days' prior notice through the platform and, where feasible, by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of RollingStory after the effective date of an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
